Grammarly lays off 230 workers as a part of restructuring

Grammarly, the AI-driven writing assistant, is undergoing a significant restructuring that includes laying off approximately 230 employees, with 82 of those affected based in the United States. The Ukraine-founded company cited the need to prepare for an AI-focused future as the reason behind the job cuts. Among those impacted are positions such as the head of brand design, head of human insights, and 17 software engineers, according to reports from the San Francisco Chronicle.

While 37 workers in Ukraine, where Grammarly was established in 2009, will also be affected. Despite the layoffs, the company has pledged to support impacted employees by providing six months of compensation, additional payments for health insurance, and career coaching. Sacked employees will be allowed to retain laptops and other equipment provided by the company.

Grammarly’s decision comes after an analysis of its organizational structure and skills in line with its future strategy. The platform, known for its spellcheck, grammar correction, plagiarism detection, and text enhancement features, remains committed to its mission of aiding users in improving their English writing.
